A historic walled district housing some of the world's oldest Christian churches, including the Hanging Church (4th century), built on top of a Roman fortress gate. Coptic Cairo also contains Egypt's oldest synagogue and the Church of Saints Sergius and Bacchus, said to mark where the Holy Family sheltered.
